What do I do in advance of the creditor's meeting?

At some point before you attend the creditor's meeting, you should do the following:
  1. Review the list of assets and liabilties that your attorney prepared with you. Make certain that the list is true and complete. If there are omissions, make a note of them; discuss them with your attorney before the meeting; and be prepared to disclose the omissions to the bankruptcy Trustee. Also, review the budget that you prepared with your attorney to make certain that it is accurate. These steps are important because the Trustee will spend time reviewing the material at the meeting.
  2. Review the bankruptcy information sheet that your attorney provided. If, for some reason your attorney did not provide this information, it can be found here, as a PDF file, in English (o aquí en español). The Spanish translation was obtained from Washburn School of Law. Trustee Ebner is not sufficiently proficient in Spanish to ensure its complete accuracy. If you need the information in a language other than English, please contact your attorney.
  3. Locate official government proof of your social security number, other than the Social Security Number printed on your bankruptcy papers. Examples of acceptable proof include your Social Security card, paycheck stub or a group medical insurance card, if you are the insured. Some of the older driver's licenses have your Social Security Number printed on them; the newer ones do not. In addition to proof of your Social Security Number, a current photo ID is necessary. Failure to present these identification documents to the Trustee will preclude your meeting from taking place.
